Empower and Protect: Kansas City's Inspiring Feminine Hygiene Drive

In an inspiring blend of community involvement and education, Kansas City’s 13th annual feminine hygiene period products drive and expo is poised to empower the community against domestic violence. This Saturday, the event invites residents to rally together at MCC Penn Valley Campus in Kansas City, Missouri, from noon until 3 p.m.
A Movement to Uplift and Educate
Giving Hope and Help, in collaboration with Building Beautiful Black Girls (BBBG), is setting a new standard in addressing domestic violence. Chrystal Truss from BBBG will lead a workshop tailored for teenage girls, aged 13 to 17, teaching how to forge healthy relationships. The workshop aims to arm these young women with the knowledge and confidence to prevent vulnerability to abuse.
Truss shares, “Our goal is to empower young women with tools to recognize their strength and prevent vulnerability, ultimately combating domestic violence.”
Community Support Through Donations
As stated in KSHB 41 Kansas City, the primary focus of the event is to gather essential donations for those escaping domestic violence situations. Community members are encouraged to contribute money or feminine hygiene products, such as pads, menstrual cups, and period panties. With volunteers, including the William Chrisman High School football team, packing these contributions into kits, the drive promises to ensure shelters are well-equipped.
An Engaging Line-Up for All Ages
The event’s schedule includes various activities to engage the community:
- Period Products Donation Drive: Essential to the event’s mission, aiming to support domestic violence shelters.
- Vendor Expo: Open to the public, offering a chance to explore local nonprofit and business stalls.
- Menstrual Education Workshop: Designed for girls aged 8 and above, fostering awareness and understanding.
- Relationship Building Sessions: Focused on empowering girls aged 13 and above, with lessons to cultivate healthy relationships.
Kansas City’s Largest Period Packing Party
A highlight of the event is Kansas City’s largest period packing party. It brings together volunteers, the community, and organizations in a unified effort to fight domestic violence, extending support and hope.
Jessica McClellan, the founder of Giving Hope and Help, asserts, “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that individuals who have bravely left abusive environments find the support and resources they need.”
This Saturday’s event is more than a donation drive; it’s a beacon of hope and empowerment shining on Kansas City, encouraging every community member to play a part in fostering change and supporting those in need.
